Our Philosophy

Dean Rutz has for 22 years been a staff photographer and editor for The Seattle Times.  An “event” photographer of sorts, he has photographed or edited every Olympic Games between Barcelona in 1992 and Torino in 2006.  He has also photographed the Superbowl, NBA Finals, and countless other sporting championships.  He has appeared in Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, Life Magazine, and the Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine.  Previously, he worked in Washington DC for The Times; before that at The Palm Beach Post; and before that in a variety of capacities for The Associated Press, The Austin American-Statesman, the Cincinnati Enquirer, and New York Newsday. His claim to fame?  He once held a White House ID.

Karen Ducey was a staff photographer for The Seattle Post-Intelligencer.  Her work has been published around the world including Time, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, and GEO and has garnished national and regional awards.  Ducey pioneered a photo column which appeared weekly in print, and now can be found online http://www.anextraordinarytime.com.  Prior to arriving in Seattle, Ducey worked at The Indianapolis Star.   And before that?  Ducey worked as a commercial fisherman in Alaska where she also developed original content for The National Geographic Society. Her pictures of the crab industry can be found online at the Geographic here:  http://www.nationalgeographic.com/photography/ducey/index.html

Don Preisler works in a broad role doing imaging and online services for the University of California at Davis.  His long and distinguished career in journalism includes stints with The Washington Times, and the French national news agency Agence France-Presse.  He and Rutz worked together in Washington DC, and at The Palm Beach Post.  Preisler’s adventures have taken him around the world, and have put him periodically in harm’s way such as his work documenting the civil war in El Salvador.

Our approach is simple: As full time working photojournalists we specialize in  documentary- style photography.  Your wedding is an event, and we’ll capture the most important moments down to the finest details in an unobtrusive style.  Working with at least two photographers at any given time, we can be behind the scenes and up close, covering all angles, so you won’t miss a thing.

We go beyond that to include portrait and group pictures.  You are our client, and we want to give you exactly what you want.  Tell us what’s on your mind.  We’ll put it on DVD or film.

This merry band of photographers has been published in almost every major newspaper or magazine in America, and elsewhere around the world.

They are all based on the west coast of the United States, but routinely travel across the country for weddings and other editorial work.

We love dogs and have all worked in some capacity for animal welfare.  Ravenna Weddings is our way of saying “till death do us part”.
